Using short phrases or single words, microcopy anticipates users’ needs, questions, and fears, and provides clear instructions, unambiguous CTAs, hints, tooltips, error messages, explainers, and more. Whether its a simple search prompt, a clever 404 page, an intuitive FAQ, or a well-placed tongue-in-cheek play on words that’s on point with your product (like an inside joke between you and your users; what I call wink-text), microcopy makes navigating your content a much more inviting, personal experience. Small nudges in the right direction work to remove doubt, engender trust, and make a huge difference in how consumers use and interact with your site or app. Think of microcopy as short-burst rapid fire. It’s quick, extremely targeted, and gets the job done.
